A nanny groom assists a family to care for children, horses and ponies. They may also be consider caring for other animals and be happy to perform light housekeeping duties. Nanny grooms can be employed on either a live in or live out basis.
Their exact duties can vary extensively depending upon the individual needs of the household. However much the same as a daily nanny their duties can include undertaking all aspects of childcare including morning and bedtime routines, school/nursery runs, homework supervision, preparing and organising the child/ren’s social calendar which can include play dates, age appropriate classes and groups, swimming, and visits to the parks/museums etc as well as home based activities such as painting and baking. They can also be asked to book and attend hospital, doctors, dentists, optician and hair appointments with your child/ren if required.
Additionally they will also exercise, school and lunge horses / ponies and undertake general animal care, muck out stables, accompany your child/ren on hacks and help with riding where required. However their primary aim should always be to nurture the emotional, physical and intellectual well-being of your child/ren.
Where time allows a nanny groom can also be responsible for undertaking nursery duties and/or general light household duties. These duties can include washing and ironing, organising the child/ren’s clothes and belongings, cleaning their bedrooms and if applicable the child/ren’s bathroom along with any play areas. All additional duties should always be discussed and agreed prior to the post commencing and be proportionate to the amount of days/hours the nanny groom works. The nanny groom should also ensure that toys are put away at the end of the day and will prepare nutritious meals and snacks. Some nanny grooms may be happy to cook a larger meal and leave a portion for the parents, however this should be discussed and agreed prior to the role commencing.
